Connectivity is critical as we move toward an age of intelligent and automated vehicular mobility ushered in by the implementation of high-speed 5G networks. Vehicle-to-everything-else (V2X) connectivity will be an important way to enable more features for intelligent and automated mobility. But to operate and interoperate effectively and support the very low latency necessary, V2X will require a robust multi‑access edge computing (MEC) architecture.

Equinix, a primary early supporter of MEC4Auto, has invested in the edge infrastructure that will be necessary to support a variety of automotive use cases.

Highlights:

  • MEC4Auto is MEC technology to support services that will help define the next generation of vehicular mobility and autonomy.
  • Some of the use cases supported by MEC4Auto that appear destined for success include hazard detection, real-time routing and "see-through" functionality.
  • This new approach to the edge also provides important new functional capabilities that will provide a better environment for future services.
  • Equinix has built integrations with major cloud service providers, cellular network providers and other key platforms that are necessary for complete and functional MEC4Auto infrastructure.
When you need to process the information that will keep vehicles fully aware of all surroundings, you can’t have every transaction or data feed go to the cloud and back.
